List of free apps and educational resources you can access in Kenya
With the short holidays coming up, we thought it best to help you out with some educational links. Below is a list of some online educational apps, free online courses, and educational resources.
Free apps and online courses and educational resources
This is a list compiled by home educators. This is a non-exhaustive list that may help those affected by school closures due to the coronavirus outbreak in Kenya.
Online courses for primary and higher education
Zeraki learning app
It is an educational platform that offers studies and lessons taught by experienced secondary school teachers. The app includes video lessons and assessment tests from some of the best high school teachers in Kenya. It applies three simple processes; learn, practice and follow.
The Zeraki Learning app has a simple app. They have partnered with Safaricom to offer at least 5 Forms 1-4 courses so far. They include biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry and geography.
Plus, it has homework for all subjects, including agriculture and aviation. It also requires around 1 GB of storage space to accommodate subject quizzes and assignments.
Khan Academy
At Khan Academy, students practice at their own pace. They first start by “filling in the gaps” and then expand the questions according to the child’s abilities.
It’s good for math and computer science for all ages and other high school subjects. Note that this uses the American quality system, but it is mostly common material.
BBC Learning
This site is old and no longer updated and yet there is still so much available, from Language Learning to BBC Bitesize for review. No TV license is required except for content on BBC iPlayer.
futurelearn
Free access to hundreds of coursesonly pay for the upgrade if you need a certificate in your name (own account from 14 years old, but young learners can use a parent account).
Prodigy Math
A math learning platform that focuses on the American system from grades 1-8. He is in american notesbut good for UK primary age as well.
Computer programming courses

It’s a fun platformer where you can learn computer programming skills. Simple enough for kids to learn and have fun.
Stripe
With Scratch you can program your own interactive stories, games and animations, and share your creations with other members of the online community. Creative computer programming
Videos, activities and discovery courses
Ted Ed
TedEd Platform has all kinds of engaging educational videos suitable for all ages.
Duolingo
With this site, you can learn languages for free. Web or app.
Intensive course
From courses like astronomy to U.S. history and anatomy and physiology, it covers you with an impressive variety of AP high school curriculum topics. With various spiritual hosts at your service, you won’t even notice that you’re getting smarter.
Intensive course for children
This channel explores the world of science. It contains mini-videos that explain certain topics to children in a way that they can easily understand. As above for younger audiences
Paw print badges
The Paw Print Badges Site offers free challenge packs and other downloads. Many activities can be done inside. Badges cost money but are optional.
British Council
Choose from a wide range of resources to give your class insight into other cultures and provide a basis for developing international partnerships.
