ComauThe new N-220 industrial robot from introduces an architectural approach based on progressive modularity, component reduction, advanced motors and APC drivers. With its large working area and Cartesian Performance Level D safety features, the high payload (220 kg) robot is perfect for a wide range of industries, including automotive. It has a hollow forearm and an integrated application bandage. The N-220 robot also benefits from direct kinematics, absolute calibration and advanced motion algorithms that combine to deliver repeatability and precision. The robot is equipped with built-in forklift adapters and optional high torque washers for automatic anchor base attachment, easier relocation and faster installation.

The N-220 addresses specific market needs for cost-effective and easy-to-integrate robotics that also deliver high-speed industrial performance. The holistic design and modular architecture of the N-220 also makes it easy to install, use and maintain. Manufactured at Comau’s headquarters in Italy using a robotic assembly line, it reliably automates assembly, spot welding, packaging and material handling, as well as continuous process applications. such as 3D printing and collage.

Comau‘s e-Motion software algorithm improves cycle time, motion quality and trajectory control. Using a nitrogen balance system on axis 2 and wider endstops on axis 3, the N-220 benefits from increased agility and a wide rear working area ideal for bending and handling applications. And because the N-220 uses only two engine sizes and one type of oil, replacing a faulty engine is quick and easy. An added benefit of the simplified, modular architecture is easier overall maintenance and improved mean time between failures (MTBF) due to a 50% reduction in robot components.

Recognizing that integration speed has a direct impact on production potential, the N-220 implements the Nodal speech-based coding language for open and easy programming. The easy dressing solution is comprised of two separate flexible harnesses (robot and app power) that facilitate an easy and quick upgrade or replacement. Likewise, the direct assembly between the engine and the gearbox simplifies mechanical transmissions and minimizes power losses and play, thus increasing efficiency and reducing consumption.
